This Friday I will not be baking, as I am heading to Cake International at Birmingham NEC.
On Thursday evening I shall pack my bag, ensure I have beverages, snacks and my tickets ready for an early start on Friday morning. I like to arrive as the doors open and can then spend the whole day shopping!
The show wasn’t on last year and many likeminded bakers will be waiting not only to spend their hard-earned pennies, but to admire the truly amazing competition entries that are displayed at the front of the hall.
These creations are incredible works of art and some have travelled several hundreds of miles to be at the show!
The exhibitors range from small artisan designers and makers to large international businesses. I enjoy looking at everything at least twice and then racing along the corridors of the NEC to make sure I catch the train home. So far, I have my eye on;
1.
Kitchenaid
I am considering a new large mixer. These American workhorses area joy to look at and are super efficient. I would like another red one. I hope they deliver!
Don’t fancy carrying one of those at on the train. It might need its own seat. https://www.kitchenaid.co.uk/
2.
Immaculate Confections
Run by Natalie Porter and husband Chris. These two are aficionados on all things colour. Natalie teaches flower making courses online and sells way too many goodies on her website including edible colours, her flower and colour books, and wonderful food safe brushes. https://www.immaculateconfections.co.uk/shop-colours/
3.
Cakes by Carol
Carol has designed a sharp edge smoother to help cake makers achieve smooth razor-sharp edges on their sugarpaste cakes and is an award-winning cake maker. Her wedding cakes are a pure delight, the designs are all so incredibly different. I love my sharp edge smoother so shall stop by her stand to say hello to the lovely Carol.
4.
Colour Mill
Then I will make sure I stop at Colour Mill. These colours are oil based and highly concentrated and are especially manufactured to work with chocolate. During the past year lots of new colours have been added to the range and I shall definitely purchase some new ones for my collection. I have used Colour Mill on many cakes particularly pastel ones.
Quite certain that I will come home with my head in a spin for all things cake – I confess I will be taking my trusty shopping trolley and I plan to fill it to bursting. See you soon Cake International 2021!
